In the Previous Episode: So far, you have read about the stages of Kumar and Dhruvdev’s journey in exile. You read how, on one hand, Dhruvdev’s cleverness broke Shitalaprasad’s ego, while on the other, Kumar is also cherishing the small joys and experiences of common life, forgetting his royal comforts.
Moving Forward: Friends! The time has come for our heroine, 'Swarnaprabha,' to enter the story. If you are wondering who this Swarnaprabha is, then know that the one who was famous in the city lanes as 'Princess Swarnaprabha' for her golden radiance was the very heartbeat of her parents within the palace walls—'Suvarna.' So, let us move toward that mysterious world of Suvarna...
<★★★★★★★★★★★★★★>
Many months had passed since Kumar and Dhruvdev left the palace. In the last letter received from the Maharaja, they were ordered to return soon, but destiny had accepted something else.
One day, both friends, in the guise of travelers, were passing through a quiet village. Holding the reins of their horses, they were admiring the rural beauty while walking on foot. Just then, a little girl carrying a basket of vegetables came running fast and tripped over some items kept outside a house. With a loud sound, the earthen pots broke, and vegetables from the basket scattered all around.
Hearing the noise, the girl's mother came out irritated from inside, "Hey, you ill-fated girl! Can't you ever walk properly? You keep falling and tripping all the time. Have you tied a blindfold over your eyes like Princess Swarnaprabha, that you can't see anything?"
That woman continued to mutter in anger, but Kumar Vikramaditya’s ears were stuck on words like 'Princess Swarnaprabha' and 'blindfold on the eyes.' He stood rooted like a statue, watching that flustered girl gather her belongings.
When Dhruvdev found Kumar lost like this, he shook his shoulders and drew his attention. Kumar signaled 'nothing' and moved toward that woman. Dhruvdev followed behind him in confusion.
Reaching near the woman, Kumar folded his hands and said, "Namaskar sister! We are travelers and Kshatriyas by varna. My name is Jivandas Singh and this is our brother, Muhbola Singh. Sister, we are thirsty, can we get a little water? It would be very kind of you."
When the woman looked back, two radiant young men were standing in front, whose personalities gave the impression of a noble family.
She immediately changed her tone and said, "Why not, brother! Come, sit on this stool, I will bring water just now." Then she said, giving instructions to her daughter, "Go and keep all this in the kitchen... and go carefully, don't fall again!"
In a little while, that woman returned; she had a vessel full of water in her hand and the girl had jaggery (gur) in a clay bowl. Offering the jaggery toward Kumar, she said, "Brother! First partake of some jaggery, then drink water. Your throat must be drying up. If you are hungry, should I cook something? Or if you want to make it yourself, I will take out 'Sidha' (dry rations). My husband has gone to the fields just now, he must be coming. You can have a meal with him. You seem to be from a decent home... where are you coming from?"
Kumar partook of the jaggery and drank water. Meanwhile, Dhruvdev replied, "Sister! We are coming from Kanchanpur. We had some necessary work in Gopnagar."
The woman chirped, "I see! That is not very far from here."
Both Kumar and Dhruvdev had the refreshment. Then Kumar said hesitatingly, "Sister! If you don't take it otherwise, may I ask one thing?"
The woman replied with a smile, "Why mind a brother's words! Ask without hesitation, what do you want to ask? You seem to be a very sensible person."
When Kumar hesitated a bit, the woman laughed, "Are you feeling shy with me? Then look, my husband has arrived. Whatever you want to ask, ask him. You won't feel shame with him, will you?" Saying this, she moved toward her husband, laughing.
Taking the belongings from his hand, she began to introduce Kumar and Dhruvdev, "These both are travelers, are Kshatriyas. They have come from Kanchanpur and have to go to Gopnagar. They were thirsty so I gave them water. They want to ask something, but are hesitating. You only ask them. They have accepted me as a sister, but are refusing for the meal. They have come from a long journey, must be hungry... you only urge them."
Mansingh smiled and moved toward Kumar and Dhruvdev and said, "Okay, okay, I will tell everything! You now quickly arrange for the meal, I am also hungry. Serve for them too, we will eat together."
Than turning toward them and folding his hands, he said, "Namaskar! I am Mansingh, I am also a Kshatriya by caste. Don't mind her words, once this crazy woman starts speaking, she doesn't stop. Please do go only after having a meal, please be seated."
Mansingh soon returned after bathing and sitting near them, said, "Now tell me, what was the curiosity in your mind?"
By this time, Dhruvdev had sensed the dilemma of Kumar’s mind. Therefore, he only spoke, "Brother Mansingh! Don't take it otherwise, but we heard from sister's mouth about Princess Swarnaprabha and the blindfold tied on her eyes, so curiosity arose in the mind. After all, what is the matter? Just wanted to know this."
Mansingh spoke gravely, "I see, so this is the matter! It seems you people have not heard about the Princess of Chandangarh yet. Anyway, now this discussion has started spreading all around gradually. People here have also come to know now that Princess Swarnaprabha of Chandangarh has suddenly tied a blindfold on her eyes."
Dhruvdev was just about to ask more when Mansingh's daughter came running and said, "Bapu! Mother is calling for the meal. She has said to come quickly, otherwise the food will get cold."
Mansingh said, "Come brothers! Let's have a meal first, we will talk about the rest in detail there."
