शाम के समय डाइनिंग टेबल पर पूरा परिवार जुटा था, पर सब अपनी-अपनी दुनिया में खोए थे। सबके हाथों में चमकती स्क्रीन थी और नज़रें उसी पर टिकी थीं। टेबल के एक कोने में बैठी दादी माँ शांति से मुस्कुराते हुए सबको देख रही थीं।

​बेटे ने मोबाइल से नज़र हटाए बिना ही पूछा, "माँ, आप बोर नहीं हो रहीं?"

​दादी माँ ने धीमे से कहा, "नहीं बेटा, मैं तो तुम सबको 'लाइव' (Live) देख रही हूँ... बिना किसी सब्सक्रिप्शन के।"

​बेटे की उँगलियाँ स्क्रीन पर ठिठक गईं। उसने चेहरा उठाकर माँ को देखा। तभी मोबाइल में डूबा पोता चहका, "दादी! ये कौन सा इंटरेस्टिंग काम है?"

​दादी सहज भाव से बोलीं, "बेटा, जब तुम स्कूल में होते हो या पिता काम पर, तब तुम सब मेरे लिए किसी 'प्रीमियम सब्सक्रिप्शन' जैसे हो जाते हो—जिसे न मैं रोक सकती हूँ, न देख सकती हूँ। लेकिन अभी, इस वक्त तुम सब मेरे सामने हो। मैं तुम्हें देख रही हूँ, सुन रही हूँ और देखो... 'लाइव चैटिंग' भी कर रही हूँ। जो तुम उस छोटी सी स्क्रीन पर ढूंढ रहे हो, उसे मैं साक्षात जी रही हूँ। मेरे लिए तो यह 'लग्जरी पल' है, शायद किसी दिन तुम भी यह लग्जरी जीना चाहो।"

​कमरे में सन्नाटा छा गया। एक-एक करके मोबाइल मेज पर रख दिए गए और उस शाम, सच में 'नेटवर्क' जुड़ गया। वो भी बिना किसी डेटा पैक या अतिरिक्त भौतिक साधन के।

"​दोस्तों! यह सिर्फ कहानी नहीं, आज की विडंबना है। जो साधन दूरियाँ घटाने के लिए बने थे, वही आज फासले बढ़ा रहे हैं। हम भूल गए हैं कि वास्तविक जुड़ाव 'सिस्टम' से नहीं 'स्पर्श' से होता है। सुदूर बैठे व्यक्ति में संतोष ढूँढने की कोशिश में हम बगल में बैठे इंसान से तार जोड़ना ही भूल जाते हैं। नतीजा? हाथ खाली रह जाते हैं।

​दूर के रिश्ते खूबसूरत होते हैं, उन्हें ज़रूर सहेजिये, पर याद रखिये कि वे अक्सर 'आर्टिफिशियल ज्वेलरी' जैसे होते हैं—दिखने में सुंदर, पर संकट में मूल्यवान नहीं। आपकी अपनी 'ओरिजिनल ज्वेलरी' तो आपके पास मौजूद आपके अपने लोग हैं। अगर उन्हें आज नहीं पहना और सहेजा, तो एक दिन शायद आप उन्हें पहनने लायक ही न रहें। आर्टिफिशियल गहनों से जीवन सजाइये, पर असली की हिफाजत करना मत भूलिए।"

The entire family was gathered at the dining table in the evening, yet everyone was lost in their own virtual worlds. Glowing screens were in every hand, and eyes were glued to them. Sitting at one corner of the table, Grandma was watching everyone with a peaceful smile.

​Without looking up from his mobile, her son asked, "Ma, aren't you getting bored?"

​Grandma replied softly, "No son, I am watching you all 'Live'... without any subscription."

​The son’s fingers froze on the screen. He looked up at his mother. Just then, the grandson, still immersed in his phone, chirped, "Dadi! What kind of interesting work is this?"

​Grandma spoke simply, "Son, when you are at school or your father is at work, you all become like a 'premium subscription' to me—one that I can neither pause nor see. But right now, you all are right in front of me. I am seeing you, hearing you, and look... I am even 'Live Chatting' with you. What you are searching for on that tiny screen, I am experiencing in reality. For me, this is a 'luxury moment.' Perhaps someday, you too would want to live this luxury."

​Silence filled the room. One by one, the mobiles were placed on the table, and that evening, the 'network' truly connected—without any data pack or extra gadgets.

"​Friends! This is not just a story; it is the irony of today’s life. The tools created to bridge distances are now creating them. We have forgotten that real connection happens not through 'systems' but through 'touch.' In searching for contentment in someone far away, we forget to connect with the person sitting right next to us. The result? We end up empty-handed.

​Long-distance relationships are beautiful, and they should be cherished, but remember they are often like 'artificial jewelry'—beautiful to look at and wear, but not valuable in times of crisis. Your 'original jewelry' is your own people right beside you. If you don't wear and cherish them today, a day might come when you are no longer able to. Adorn your life with artificial jewelry if you must, but never forget to protect the original."
