📖 Is the Control of Your Book of Life in Your Own Hands?
Greetings Friends..!!
Have you ever noticed that our entire life is like a book? Here, the passing days are like pages, and the fleeting years are like chapters. Every single action of ours is like a pen, and the memories of every moment are words being printed onto it.
Some pages of this book are heavy with sorrow, while some are chirping with happiness... some are vibrant with immense enthusiasm, while others feature the faint handwriting of deep despair... on one page our celebration is written, while on another, grief is recorded. But perhaps you have never looked at your days as the pages of a book? Stop for a moment and think, what if this life being written second by second is truly a book? After all, it is not mandatory for a book to be made of paper; a life written on the pages of time and bound by the string of breaths is also just like a book.
1. Who is the Real Author of this Book?
Usually, we give the credit for the book of our life to destiny or God, but this is not the complete truth. Destiny is merely the co-author of this book; its primary author is we ourselves. We are the pen and the ink that are directly writing it. We are the authors as well as the readers of this unique book being created every moment, every day.
Most of what is recorded in this book is written by us alone, but sometimes someone else also becomes a 'guest writer' and writes something on the pages of our life—which we sometimes immensely like, and sometimes deeply hurts us. Though we are the chief creators of our book, we write certain things not from our inner intuition, but under the influence of the external world.
When God becomes our co-author, our pure consciousness always inspires us to walk on the right path; and then we write beautiful compositions of love, joy, compassion, sensitivity, cooperation, and benevolence. But sometimes, misled by the darkness of ego—driven by jealousy, malice, selfishness, and malice—we also commit improper deeds, which become a discolored writing of our own.
The superior writing that we do under the guidance of our soul is, in fact, the writing of destiny (God). On the contrary, the work done while being afflicted by ill intentions is our own writing full of ignorance, because we write it beyond right and wrong, completely possessed by 'I' (ego). Sometimes circumstances forcefully make us write certain scripts, which we can also call the writing of fate.
The authority over action (Karma) spoken of in the Gita: 'Karmanye vadhikaraste'—is precisely what makes us the authoritative author of the book of our life.
But ultimately, it is we who have to decide whether we want beautiful, colorful chapters like love, harmony, hope, and progress in our life-book, or the black letters of jealousy, malice, discontent, and despair... Because the pen and colorful ink behind it actually come from our own nature, character, and perspective, which we officially create. While writing daily life, we must also remember that we have a pencil in one hand and an eraser in the other!
2. Pencil and Eraser... But How?
Here you might say that the pencil is understandable, but how an eraser? How can anyone erase what has once been recorded in the book of life?
So I would say—yes, you can certainly erase it! Provided the letters are erased before they become permanent. The ink of the pen writing this book is nothing but 'time'. Once this ink of time dries up and the window of improvement slips away from our hands, then every attempt to erase will only leave the pages discolored, but will never be able to wipe away those stains completely. It means that if a mistake or wrong writing is committed by us, it can be immediately corrected or erased well in time with the eraser of forgiveness, improvement, and penance.
A thinker has said something very beautiful:
"Do not worry as much about an offense committed against God as about an offense committed against living beings. Because God is eternal, you can ask for His forgiveness anytime; but if a living being leaves this world, perhaps you will never get the opportunity to seek forgiveness from them and correct your script again."
3. Is the Writing of the Book of Life Mandatory? Can We Not Remain 'Blank'?
From the principle of 'Akarma' (inaction) spoken in the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita, it is certainly possible that we ourselves do not write anything. Our mind should become so pure and innocent that our every action becomes righteous and dedicated to God. But pause for a moment and look within yourself—are we capable of doing this in today's times?
The notable point is that even if you do not want to write anything yourself, this 'Adrishta' (destiny or circumstances) will inevitably make you write something or the other uncontrollably.
That means writing on the pages of life will happen anyway... but then we will have no control over it and no one else but we will be responsible for it. Because we will be the ones permitting someone else's choice to be printed on our book! Therefore, the option of 'not writing anything' (inaction) is suitable only for a very few rare people. For common people like us, the only proper way is to learn and choose what we want to write in our book.
4. The Novel of Memories and the Blank Pages Ahead
Friends! Whatever we have been writing in this book every moment in the form of good and bad memories, all those past pages are safely preserved in our memories forever. Even if something unwanted has been written on those pages by us or someone else, we cannot tear them away from life even if we want to. But if we wish, we can certainly leave those weak chapters right there and write a beautiful new beginning.
In other words, what is done cannot be erased, but a fresh effort to write what should happen can certainly be started.
So, if you missed writing something good in the past or you are not satisfied with your previous handwriting, then from this very moment, leave the attachment of those past pages and start afresh with a new page. Because the next pages of your book are still completely blank... and every new page is absolutely ready for a magnificent new story, just waiting for your positive writing...
Bad writings are the mud of the past; it is proper to discard them rather than dragging them onto the pages of the present by wrapping them around your feet.
In the end, my two lines.....
"Life is as if it were a book, each page a testimony in itself.
Word by word I am writing, as if remembering were a reckoning itself."
That's all for today... May your day be auspicious! 🙏💕
